1036. On attempt to take the screenshot to be used for the last Blog post we were surprised to see that the program name and module “Printwiser Estimating” was missing from the title bar of the window while running under PowerBuilder. We started investigation, eventually discovering that it was due to the wrongful use of =+ for string concatenation instead of += probably during one of the last-minute changes we made to the Estimating module last July.
1051. We set to making preparations for the Quote Writer upgrade for GPP, turning the feature on against an old copy of their database and setting up sample images for quote signature and company logo, setting up the SQL code that will be used for the update installer. In the process of our Online Shop page being programmatically updated with the link to the last Blog post, we were faced with a database connection error with the following message being displayed: Cannot establish database connection. Check your database connection settings. in /home1/.../amysqli.php on line 51 This was found due to not closing the phpMyAdmin page the previous day.
1062. We concluded the Quote Writer upgrade preparation with report generation testing, now left to create the update installer itself. This was done the next day, tested and revised.
1095. We began working on the Printwiser upgrade for AP with table redesign for the new Quote Requests feature. The Quote Requests feature will now have two formats, basic and advanced, the advanced being the new one. Development work continued the rest of the month:
- Redesign of Quote Request Form, now including three new sections for (1) Paper/color/page extent details, and (2) Pre-press and delivery details, and finally (3) Documents List for attaching and viewing related documents.
- Placing the Quote Requests item on the Option menu.
- Building and testing the first Printwiser v11.0 executable, later addressing a couple of issues.
- Beginning implementation of the PEF advice list and form.
- Updating the File > Open submenu and the User Settings Form.
We encountered a puzzling situation where the PowerBuilder debugger appeared not to recognize a break point any longer. Eventually it turned out to be human error as we wrongly placed the breakpoints in the old Quote Request Form rather than the new one that was actually being displayed. For the Documents List, we made use of a file processing function that was first created for Gerian Assistant.
1202. A Printwiser client called and left message reporting that their system was “malfunctioning.” Further details from their IT support were requested and being awaited.
1305. We carried out domain name and hosting renewal for a web client.
